Please note from 12th October 2025, the European Union’s (EU) new Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin.
EES is a new digital border system, designed to improve border security, that will change requirements for British citizens travelling to the Schengen area. The countries in the Schengen area are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Anyone travelling to one of these countries will be required to register their biometric details, such as fingerprints and a photo, when they arrive at the border. The new system will replace the current system of manually stamping passports.
Registration is valid for a rolling three-year period or until the passport expires.
This will affect UK drivers and freight operators who transport goods into the EU, and may lead to longer wait times at ports, particularly during the initial roll out phase.
If you have any questions about how your shipments may be impacted, please contact your local office, and the team will be on hand to assist with any queries you may have.
