US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer have announced a first-of-a-kind US-UK trade deal.
The historic trade deal has reduced car export tariffs from 27.5% to 10%, providing a real boost to the UK automotive industry. The reduction will apply to a quota of 100,000 cars.
Tariffs on steel and aluminium have been cut from 25% to zero, strengthening the UK steel industry, and securing thousands of jobs.
The US and the UK have also agreed a tariff-free import quota of up to 13,000 metric tonnes of beef. There will be no weakening of UK food standards.
Tariffs on UK imports of ethanol from America, which is used in the manufacturing sector, has been reduced to zero.
All of the revised tariffs come into effect immediately.
Further US trade deals are expected. Talks between the US and the EU, China and Indian are on-going, with any agreements expected to boost global trade.
