How big is the export market in Germany?
According to data from Destatis and World’s Top Exports, German exports totaled approximately €1.56 trillion (approx. US$1.70 trillion) in 2025. This represents a modest increase of 1.0% over the previous year, highlighting the resilience of German industry despite significant domestic and international headwinds.
Exports to the United States, France, the Netherlands, and China remained the primary drivers of this volume. Together, these four nations accounted for approximately 30.7% of all German exports. While the United States remained the largest single buyer of German goods (approx. 10.3%), exports to that market experienced sharp volatility in late 2025 following the introduction of new U.S. trade tariffs.

The following are the top 10 German exports during 2025. The top 10 accounts for approximately 69.2% of the total US$ value for all exports from Germany.
- Vehicles – US$293.6 billion (17.2% of total exports from Germany)
- Machinery including Computers – US$272.7 billion (16.0% of total exports)
- Electrical Machinery & Equipment – US$189.8 billion (11.1% of total exports)
- Pharmaceuticals – US$119.3 billion (7.0% of total exports)
- Optical, Technical & Medical Apparatus – US$84.1 billion (4.9% of total exports)
- Plastics & Plastic Articles – US$68.6 billion (4.0% of total exports)
- Aircraft & Spacecraft – US$38.4 billion (2.3% of total exports)
- Articles of Iron & Steel – US$36.2 billion (2.1% of total exports)
- Other Chemical Goods – US$36.1 billion (2.1% of total exports)
- Organic Chemicals – US$35.7 billion (2.1% of total exports)
