India-UK Free Trade Deal Announcement

AGI News

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer have announced they have signed a free trade deal between India and the UK.

The India-UK free trade deal will make UK cars and whisky cheaper to export to India. As part of the deal, Indian jewellery and textiles will be cheaper to import to the UK. Levies will also fall on UK exports to India on gin, electricals, cosmetics, lamb, salmon, chocolates and biscuits.

India accounts for approximately 2% of the UK’s goods trade, and according to the BBC, the free trade deal is expected to create over 2,200 new British jobs, boosting the British economy by over £4.5bn a year.

The free trade deal is the latest agreement announced by the UK government, following a trade deal with the US back in May.
